Cast/casted by blind people I believe, this guy looks nothing like Morrissey, just an ordinary, average guy, totally without charisma, the only hope is that he is a good actor. The title of this movie is also irritating."Steven"!??

I agree with Joan, the unresemblance is uncanny!

Still if an actor has the 'essence' of the character much will be forgiven, sadly I don't hold my breath on this either! I hope to be wrong. I pray I am wrong but, sadly. I am doomed to be right once again I fear!

And the title? Well way to go if the aim is to guarantee no help, input or recognition from Morrissey! 'I know my name is anything but Steven' would have been far better, but alas they choose a name that alienates the subject, grinds the teeth of the real fans and probably doesn't even make.a.connection to the rest of the wider public!! Why would you do that??? Due to this crassness I base my view that they are going to miss the point all the way through!

Will I watch it? Maybe, not at the cinema as their is unlikely to be any further insightinto Morrissey, I'll wait for Mars autobiography and content myself with that! Hopefully we will get further insight into Morrisseys personal and working life then!

Verdict...missed chance!

Yeah exactly, pretentious idiots -they will ruin this movie."Steven"-how original...They try to be so cool and unique. Marrs biography will be as boring as he is: Morrisssey is bad, it was all his fault blah blah blah, nothing new.Although maybe he will also write about theosophy or whatever it is called-so it will be even more boring.

I hope the film never happens. The only person who knows what was going on inside his mind back then was Morrissey himself.

What's the point in a film guessing about Morrissey's youth?! It's bloody pointless!

I read in a free copy of NME from Topman that it's still going ahead. Ugh! Save your money!

So ive found this:

This guy sounds really pretentious, never heard of him. And his"books" sound horribly boring. "Studied creative writing"?? What does it even mean?? Either you have talent or you don't. Did Byron study " creative writing"?? Looks like it will be a really bad movie.
Btw.

Looks nothing like him and that's just as well since I'm not going to bother watching it. The film doesn't need to be made and absolutely no one is crying out for this film.

I'm undecided on the film. Yes, it could be horrible....or it could be interesting. Sounds like both the writer and director are Smiths fans... so that is promising. The actor doesn't look the part too much... but whether he can play the part convincingly will depend on how good an actor he is.

As for the articles on MFA creative writing programs... well, I suppose it depends on the program you go to. If you go to a program that anyone interested in writing can attend, then many of his comments are probably true. But I think if you attend a competitive program, where (after submitting a portfolio for review) only a handful of people are accepted each year, it can be a wonderful experience to work along side other talented writers in workshops, and get valuable critiques on your work. I don't really see how studying creative writing is any different from going to college to study art or music... or any subject, really. I think the argument that a truly talented writer should be able to write without any training kind of falls apart if you applied it to any other field. In any case, I think in the past writers did gather more informally, to critique each others work and act as mentors to younger writers... and now it is just done more formally in MFA programs. ;)
